The HarZdigi e-fare

New: Buy tickets quickly and easily with your smartphone or bank card. Check in – check out – done. Enjoy the new benefits!

All you need is:

  • a debit card or credit card (VISA or MasterCard) or
  • a smartphone with a virtual debit card or credit card

You don't need to download an app or register in advance to use HarZdigi. However, if you register a profile via the harzbewegt app, you can view all the details of your past journeys and payments there.

How it works:

Passengers hold their bank card or smartphone up to the terminal at the front of the vehicle near the driver to check in contactlessly as they get on. Before getting off, passengers check out again at the terminal at the rear of the vehicle. The system records the journey time and automatically calculates the ticket price. The cost of the ticket is debited directly from the passenger's account or card.

If you forget to check out, there is no need to worry about high costs, as the system automatically logs the passenger out: the fare is then capped at 6 euros.

Where you can use the e-fare:

The HarZdigi e-fare is valid throughout the Harz district, but only with Harzer Verkehrsbetriebe (HVB) and Halberstädter Verkehrs-GmbH (HVG) services. It is not valid on local transport lines operated by Deutsche Bahn or other transport companies.

Previous tickets and payment options, such as cash payment to the bus driver, remain valid. 

Advantages of HarZdigi

1. Affordable: HarZdigi is a separate time-based e- fare with four fare levels (travel time: 5 minutes, 30 minutes, 60 minutes, 90 minutes) → For certain routes, the e-fare can be cheaper than the conventional one, which is based on the number of zones traveled through. This could be the case for short trips that cover two fare zones.
 

2. Eco-friendly: No paper tickets means less waste.

3. Transparent: Users can see all their trips, prices, and payments on the HarZdigi customer portal.

4. Fair: The total monthly price for journeys with the HarZdigi e- fare is capped at 58 euros (as of October 2025). This means that anyone who travels more than they had planned is on the safe side.

5. Simple: Check in – check out – done.
