New digital student tickets in credit card format

Paper tickets are a thing of the past! As of September 1, 2024, the Harz district has issued around 6,200 new digital student tickets in credit card format. Eligible students can use these tickets to access public transport not only in the Harz region but nationwide, as they are valid as Germany tickets.

With their bold "harzbewegt" design, the cards are certainly eye-catching. In addition to the personal details of the student and a passport photo, the front side also features a barcode and an integrated RFID chip, which is scanned when boarding the bus.

The new student tickets are valid:

  • valid nationwide on all forms of public transport (e.g., regional trains, U- and S-Bahn, buses, and trams)
  • valid on trains of the Harz narrow-gauge railways
  • valid all year round, including during school holidays
  • for students in grades 1–10

Students in upper secondary school and vocational schools can also use the Germany ticket. To do so, they must subscribe to the ticket and apply for travel cost reimbursement through the Harz district.
